Deion Sanders Coach Deion Sanders talks about the Southern game and what lies ahead for the Tigers during a news conference at Jackson State University in Jackson on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022. Tcl Deion Sanders

The next head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers won’t be Deion Sanders.

The man known as “Primetime” is a hot coaching candidate in FBS. Already, Deion has had to deny interest in the open Auburn Tigers job. Another rumor involving the Jackson State head coach swirled on Friday. The rumor involved Deion and the opening with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The good news for those following him at Jackson State? Prime isn’t going anywhere.

Nick Shenert, a producer on The Drive on 93.7 The Ticket in Lincoln, published a tweet Friday refuting Deion’s interest. The video features Eric Strickland, a former Husker and 10-year NBA veteran, and co-host of The Drive offering that denial. The denial came straight from Deion himself.

Strickland said, “In the words of Deion ‘Primetime’ Sanders, he said, ‘No truth to it, my brother.”

So you can count Deion Sanders out of heading to Lincoln anytime soon. The source was questionable for so many reasons. But the college football world has produced crazier coaching moves not thought of before. So you just never know.

The answer to who Nebraska’s next football coach will be will just have to wait longer. They are targeting some major names in the coaching world.
