Now that the NFL Draft is finally completed, not everyone was thrilled with how the way things turned out. Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders said he was “ashamed” that the NFL didn’t draft more players from historically-Black colleges and universities.

Only one player was chosen from an HBCU. That was cornerback Isaiah Bolden, from Sanders’ former school of Jackson State. The New England Patriots picked him in the seventh round, 245th overall.

“So proud is you @isaiahbolden23 You deserved to be drafted much higher but I’m truly proud of u. I know how much u want this. I’m ashamed of the 31 other @nfl teams that couldn’t find draft value in ALL of the talented HBCU players & we had 3 more draft worthy players at JSU.”

Most of the people who read that tweet probably rolled their eyes at Sanders’s criticism, especially JSU fans. After promising to help rebuild the Tigers’ program, Sanders took a job at Colorado to become their new head coach following just two seasons with Jackson State.

Sanders has been in the headlines lately for at least nearly 50 of his Buffaloes’ players entering the transfer portal. He claims he wants to build a winning culture at CU, but he’s doing so with massive turnover. And several of his former players have called him out about it.
