The Nebraska Cornhuskers‘ permanent head coaching job is still up for grabs but the school hasn’t seemed to narrow it down to one particular coach. Like Auburn and other schools with job openings, one name that keeps popping up is Deion Sanders. But it seems Coach Prime has no interest in the Nebraska job, so where do the Cornhuskers turn to next? ESPN’s Desmond Howard says that they should turn to former NFL coach Matt Rhule.

“I was on the desk and … there were rumors that it was going to be Deion Sanders,” Howard said, via Nick Kosko of 247 Sports. “Well, Deion, Coach Prime, had to address it with his team that he has not had any conversations with Nebraska. So it’s not going to be Deion. The next coach (will be) Matt Rhule.”
Matt Rhule was up until recently the head coach of the Carolina Panthers but before that, he also coached at Temple and Baylor, where he built a reputation for building programs in a hurry.
While he was at Baylor, Rhule won Big 12 Coach of the Year, so he wouldn’t be a bad choice for the Cornhuskers. The question is, will they be smart enough to offer him the job? And will they be able to outbid other suitors for his services?
Nebraska wants a big-name head coach and Rhule despite being successful in the past, may not be big enough for them.
