While the TCU Horned Frogs fight to lock down their spot in the College Football Playoff, Dick Vitale would like everyone to know that the Alabama Crimson Tide deserves a spot in the CFP in spite of having two losses.

It’s not entirely clear what prompted the college basketball icon to tweet out his full-throated support for Nick Saban’s blueblood program. But he seemed to be making the argument that despite their two-loss record, Alabama should still be in the playoffs because, well, they’re Alabama.

It’s the kind of argument that many might expect from Vitale, who would often necessarily prop up college basketball programs like Duke, Kansas, and North Carolina when they were attempting to earn a No. 1 seed or make the NCAA Tournament.

To be fair, it’s an argument that makes people make every year when it comes to the four-team playoff. Even though another school might go undefeated in one conference, surely they’re not better than a two-loss team in the SEC, given the teams they had to play.

The good news for Dick is that college football is tilted to favor programs like Alabama even when they’re not the best, so, between USC’s loss on Friday and TCU’s potential loss today, not to mention what might happen in the SEC Championship Game, it’s entirely possible that the Tide slips back into the CFP.

Vitale just seems to love offering up his opinion on random topics these days, and who are we to stop him?
