Michigan Wolverines running back Donovan Edwards retweeted a blatantly antisemitic tweet Wednesday that made the college football world aghast.

“Jewish people will literally tell you that they want you to kill your own and humiliate your women simply because they have children to feed,” the offending tweet read.

Over 6,500 Jewish students are currently enrolled at the University of Michigan.

Wednesday, Donovan offered an explanation for the horrific share:

“The retweet was a glitch. I speak for myself. I know what’s in my heart. I am unequivocally against racism, exploitation & oppression in all forms, including stereotyping and trafficking in hate. I have nothing but love for others & I never judge anyone based on race or religion,” Edwards said in the tweet.

The Michigan football program has yet to respond to the situation.

On the season, Edwards has taken 43 attempts for 307 yards and 4 touchdowns. He has also added 8 receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown through the air. Edwards came to Michigan as a four-star recruit from West Bloomfield, Michigan, in 2021. West Bloomfield is also known for its significant Jewish population.

Edwards and the No. 4 Wolverines are next in action when they host the unranked Michigan State Spartans. The Wolverines opened as 22.5-point favorites in that game.
