Florida State just landed a huge transfer, as an All-ACC cornerback will move from one program in the conference to another.
Virginia cornerback Fentrell Cypress will transfer to Florida State. Noles247, FSU’s 247Sports site, reported on New Year’s Day that Cypress, a Second Team All-ACC selection in 2022, will make the intra-conference move from Charlottesville to Tallahassee.

Chris Nee of 247Sports tweeted a quote from Florida State head coach Mike Norvell, who commented on Cypress’ move. Norvell said, “This is another fantastic addition to our program. Fentrell is a great player who possesses the unique combination of length and athleticism. He has a huge upside and brings a proven track record of consistent playmaking into our defensive backfield.”

Cypress is a former three-star recruit from the Class of 2019. At the time, he was ranked as the 91st-best cornerback in the nation. But since that time, Cypress has played his way into being one of the best cornerbacks in the country.
He was named a Second Team All-ACC selection by both the conference and the Associated Press this season. Additionally, PFF named selected Cypress to their All-ACC First Team.
Cypress’ transfer means that FSU looks even better in 2023. The Seminoles currently rank first in the nation in 247Sports’ transfer portal rankings. It’s taken a while, but Norvell seems to have FSU back on the right path.
