The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets recently revealed that interim head coach Brent Key would become their new football head coach for the 2023 college football season. He seems to already be making his imprint at the program following a speech to fans on Tuesday night.
Key issued a speech during halftime of Georgia Tech’s basketball game on Tuesday against Georgia. He received an excellent welcome from Tech fans but was equally booed by the Georgia fans in attendance.
He started his speech by asking the fans what the “good word” was. The fans responded with their anti-Georgia “THWG” chant, which stands for “To he– with Georgia.”

As Georgia fans began to boo, he swiftly said that the heckling Georgia fans should “go home.”
Since being hired last month, Key has made it a point to reinvigorate the rivalry between Georgia Tech and Georgia, saying during his introductory press conference on Monday that his team will work “365 days a year” to beat Georgia.
“We have an opponent in this state that we will work 365 days a year to defeat. We all wake up in the morning, our goal is to dominate our opponent. The feeling of dominating your opponent is like no other. And whatever team is on our schedule, that is our goal. That is what we will work towards every single day.”

Considering Georgia’s dominance under head coach Kirby Smart as of late, that will certainly be easier said than done for Key and his team.
That being said, it is a great sign that Key has this kind of passion for this great in-state rivalry.
