Saturday seemed destined to be a good day for the Indiana Hoosiers.

Indiana jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first 10 minutes against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, and appeared set to even their record at 4-4.

But Rutgers shut down the Hoosiers the rest of the way to cruise to a 24-17 victory.

In the process, the Hoosiers set an unwanted record: they became the first FBS program to record 700 losses.

That’s not a milestone any school wants. CFB fans were quick to point out the “achievement.”

“I’m honored to have been able to take part in such a momentous piece of college football history,” tweeted Bear Johnson.

It must be pointed out that sports-reference.com, used as the authority by many on college sports records, shows Indiana’s official all-time adjusted record at 479-676-38. That record, however, removes losses against teams that later forfeited for using an ineligible player, etc.

Hey, when you’ve been playing college football since 1899, as Indiana has, all-time records can get a little murky. Indiana’s sub-par 3-5 this mark this season is not subject to debate, however. Hoosiers fans were embarrassed Saturday, and fans showed no mercy.

“Three years ago Indiana shut out Rutgers 35-0. I saw a guy with a Rutgers shirt and gloated,” Kathie Chong tweeted. “Today I saw a guy walk by with a Rutgers shirt and I looked the other way. I love this team and will always root for them! But I’m also embarrassed lol.”
