We’ve only had a month of college football back in our lives, and it’s safe to say the Iowa Hawkeyes’ 2022 football team won’t go into the history books as an offensive juggernaut.

Hawkeye offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz’s latest degradation of the forward pass produced zero points at halftime of Saturday’s game against the Michigan Wolverines in Kinnick Stadium.

If that sentence seems harsh, consider that even Hawkeyes fans are roasting their team’s tepid offensive unit.

Michigan reporter Nicole Auerbach noticed a Hawkeye fan holding a sign declaring that he was only in attendance for the punter, junior Tory Taylor.

Other Iowa fans made shirts declaring, “I cheer for the punter.”

“Good morning from Iowa City,” wrote Alejandro Zúñiga. “It’s a beautiful day. People are friendly. Someone just yelled “corn!” quite loudly. I’ve seen several ‘Punting is Winning’ shirts.”

At least one Iowa fan, however, was not amused.

“Loser mentality,” NYC Hawkeye fan wrote. “This ‘punting is winning’ s*** needs to go. You know what winning is? A good offense. Scoring lots of points. TDs. Start figuring it out, Iowa.”

Other fans weren’t as kind:

“Iowa seems like the crowd who would applaud a punt inside the 10-yard line, regardless of who’s punting,” said Stephen Osentoski.

As of this writing, the Hawkeyes trail the Wolverines, 20-7, at the start of the fourth quarter.
