The Ohio State Buckeyes officially ended their 2022 football season with a Peach Bowl loss to the Georgia Bulldogs in the College Football Playoff semifinal. And as a result, one of the team’s longtime, veteran players is ending his Buckeye career as it looks like he will finish his career elsewhere.

On Monday afternoon, On3 reported that Ohio State defensive end Javontae Jean-Baptiste has entered the NCAA transfer portal after five seasons with the Buckeyes. He will have one year of eligibility remaining at his next destination.

Jean-Baptiste signed with the Buckeyes in 2018 as a four-star prospect out of New Jersey. After redshirting during his true freshman season in 2018, Jean-Baptiste played four seasons with the Buckeyes and became a regular in the defensive line rotation since then.

In 2022, Jean-Baptiste had the most successful season of his career so and emerged as one of the top players on Ohio State’s defensive line. The defensive end finished the season with 19 total tackles, four sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss, all of which were career highs. His four sacks actually ranked second on the team among defensive ends.

Despite the strong season, Jean-Bapiste was not considered a starter as he was behind fellow defensive ends J.T. Tuim0loau, Zach Harrison and Jack Sawyer, two of whom are just sophomores.
