Michigan Jim Harbaugh Syndication: Detroit Free Press

As the ongoing saga regarding Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines continues to play out, the University’s president tweeted out a substantial update regarding the job status of the embattled head coach.

For now, it appears that Harbaugh is staying put in Ann Arbor.

“I just got the phone with Coach Harbaugh and Jim shared with me the great news that he is going to remain as the Head Coach of the Michigan Wolverines,” Michigan president Santa Ono said in a tweet. “That is fantastic news that I have communicated to our Athletic Director Warde Manuel.”

Harbaugh later delivered a statement of his own, via NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.

“I love the relationships that I have at Michigan — coaches, staff, families, administration, President Santa Ono, and especially the players and their families,” Harbaugh wrote. “My heart is at the University of Michigan. I once heard a wise man say, ‘Don’t try to be out-happy, happy.’ Go Blue!”

For the second straight offseason, Michigan’s head coach has flirted with NFL job openings. Just as early as this past Tuesday, Harbaugh spent the better part of two hours with the Denver Broncos organization, but conversations remained in place with the Michigan administration.

Ono’s statement comes just four days after he took to Twitter to discuss some ongoing conversations that he’d been having with Harbaugh and the program’s athletic director.

“I [am] pleased to share that I have been having very positive and constructive conversations with our Athletic Director and Football Coach. Warde Manuel and I both want to see Jim Harbaugh stay as the head football coach of the University of Michigan Wolverines,” Ono said in a Tweet last Thursday.
