Michigan football made a massive announcement on Tuesday morning. The Wolverines officially announced its upcoming meeting with the Texas Longhorns at the Big House next fall.

Michigan will host the Longhorns at Michigan Stadium for the first time ever next September 7, 2024. It should be a heavyweight fight between two top-flight programs that will be in a premier position to contend for the CFB Playoff.

“Coming to Michigan Stadium,” the program tweeted on Tuesday morning.

The program also announced upcoming matchups with Western Michigan in 2026 and 2029 and a matchup with UTEP in 2026.

Michigan and Texas have only met one previous time before in their illustrious history. The Wolverines and Longhorns met in the 2005 Rose Bowl, an epic showdown in Pasadena. Vince Young jumped on the map as he led Texas to a comeback victory against the vaunted Wolverines. Before that and since then, the two sides haven’t competed against each other. That will change next September when they engage in hostilities in Ann Arbor for the first time ever.

The CFB world reacted to the news.

“Texas coming to the Big House in 2024 is so dang cool,” a fan tweeted.

“Michigan announces the home field swap with Texas that was part of the deal for the Longhorns to leave for the SEC a year early,” Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated tweeted. That is, indeed, part of the reason the game was announced.

Another Wolverine fan was ready for the game, saying it should be fun.

The Ghost of Texas Football was ready for an elite uniform matchup next fall.
