Mike Hart collapses on the field

The Michigan Wolverines‘ contest against the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday featured a scary moment involving Wolverine assistant coach Mike Hart.

The former running back turned running backs coach collapsed after the Hoosiers scored a touchdown early in the first quarter.

“Michigan RB coach Mike Hart went down on the sideline after the Indiana TD, and was carted off the field,” the Big Ten Network reported.

Hart, according to multiple media reports, was taken to a Bloomington, Indiana, hospital for further evaluation.

The CFB world was quick to react to the news:

“Praying for my brother Coach Mike Hart!!!” said former Michigan teammate Braylon Edwards.

“Awful situation involving Mike Hart collapsing on the Michigan sideline. Hoping it was just dehydration or nothing majors. Hard not to be shaken by that if you’re a Michigan player,” tweeted Chris Bengel of CBS.

Refs made two terrible calls against Michigan in the 1st quarter. One led to 7 points, one prolonged a drive. That plus the Mike Hart thing and things are looking a bit wobbly at the moment. Composure time!” Mark Graham tweeted.

An ambulance just left Memorial Stadium, presumably transporting Mike Hart,” reported Zach Shaw.

“Prayers up for former EMU and WMU position coach Mike Hart, who collapsed on the field and had to be carted off. Scary situation,” Hustle Belt said.

Hart was a four-year starter in Michigan’s backfield. He returned to Ann Arbor as an assistant coach under Jim Harbaugh in January 2021.

Michigan and Indiana were tied early in the second quarter.
