The Mississippi State Bulldogs improved to 6-3 on the season Saturday thanks to a 39-33 overtime home win against the Auburn Tigers (who fell to 3-6), but that wasn’t an easy win for them. They led 10-0 after the first quarter and 24-6 at the half, but let the Tigers all the way back into this one, and trailed 33-30 with 56 seconds left. They quickly managed to pull off a field goal drive, though, and tied the game with 34 seconds left on a 44-yard field goal from Massimo Biscardi:

And after that, the Bulldogs got a chance to win in regulation. That came thanks to an unusual kickoff, where they kicked it off a Tigers’ player and recovered:

Biscardi missed the eventual 56-yard field goal attempt off that drive, sending this one to overtime. But there, Auburn kicker Anders Carlson missed a 38-yard field goal to cap the Tigers’ first possession, and the Bulldogs won off this run by Jo’quavious Marks (seen above celebrating with fans afterwards):

On the day, Bulldogs’ QB Will Rogers threw for 357 yards (on 42 completions on 59 attempts, 71.2 percent) and three touchdowns against one interception. For the Tigers, QB Robby Ashford completed just seven of 22 attempts (31.8 percent) for 75 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions, but he also rushed for a team-leading 108 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries (6.0 yards per carry). But Marks’ rushing ability was key to Mississippi State’s win; he only got seven carries all day, but he picked up 45 yards (6.4 yards per carry), including that game-winning touchdown. And he helped the Bulldogs survive the Tigers’ comeback here.
