The annual Egg Bowl between the Ole Miss Rebels and the Mississippi Bulldogs was a wild affair for much of the game that had an equally crazy finish.
It very much looked like Mississippi State was going to pull away in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs recovered a fumble from Ole Miss and made it all the way down to the Rebels’ one-yard-line with the lead.
However, Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers made a horrible mistake by fumbling short of the goal line on a rush attempt, with the fumble being recovered by Ole Miss.

Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart made the most of this opportunity, driving his team all the way down the field and scoring on a clutch touchdown pass.

This pulled Ole Miss within two points, making a successful two-point conversion necessary to tie the game.
However, the Bulldogs made a clutch stop on the play after a shovel pass from Dart fell incomplete.

Ole Miss had no remaining timeouts. After recovering the onside kick, the Bulldogs needed only to take three knees to clinch the Egg Bowl victory.
It was overall an extremely wild game, and college football fans certainly seemed to appreciate the rivalry between the two teams always creating an action-packed contest.
Oh. The Egg Bowl is getting weird? You don’t say…

the Egg Bowl is always better than the nighttime NFL game and the nighttime NFL game is tied in the fourth quarter between two playoff teams

the egg bowl on thanksgiving is another great of example of why the cfb should go right at those crappy weeknight nfl windows with chaos games

The Egg Bowl is so sick man. I’ll be like 75 years old laughing at this game God willing

With the Egg Bowl on the line, Ole Miss went for shovel option. And shovel option did what shovel option always does: not work.

Any college football rivalry game is always important, but this matchup was particularly impactful for what it could mean to the Ole Miss program moving forward.
There have already been rumors of head coach Lane Kiffin potentially leaving for the vacant Auburn head coaching position, and this debilitating loss certainly won’t help things.
It is a very real possibility that this is one of the last games that Kiffin will ever coach at Ole Miss. This undoubtedly is not the way that he likely wants to go out at the program.
