The Michigan Wolverines defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes in back-to-back years for the first time in over two decades on Saturday.

After the game, the Wolverines planted a Block “M” flag in the middle of Ohio State’s turf field:

“Flag planted,” wrote Jordan Strack.

The loss is still stinging in Columbus. Over 24 hours after the game’s conclusion, legendary Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith took to Twitter to send a clear message to current Buckeye players:

“No one in this pic would let them plant the flag on the Block ‘O’,” Smith, one of the greatest Wolverine killers in school history, wrote.

The picture, likely taken at a tailgate prior to yesterday’s contest, features former Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Santonio Holmes (third from left) and Minnesota Vikings safety Mike Doss (second from right) as well as other teammates from Smith’s playing days.

Smith was an unheralded recruit and one of the last commitments taken by Ohio State in the 2002 recruiting class. After a short spell returning punts during the Buckeyes’ 2002 season, Smith moved to quarterback where he eventually overtook former five-star recruit Justin Zwick as starter.

Smith won the 2005 Heisman Trophy in one of the most decorated quarterback seasons in Ohio State program history. He went 3-0 against Michigan as the starting quarterback.
