After the departure of Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Kyle McCord who entered the NCAA transfer portal earlier this month, Devin Brown will make the first start of his career against the Missouri Tigers in the Cotton Bowl, and it sounds like he’s ready for the chance.
Devin Brown battled with Kyle McCord for the starting quarterback role during the offseason before McCord ultimately earned the job. But with McCord now transferring away from the program, Brown is excited to make his first start on such a big stage.
“I’m pumped. I mean, I can’t believe my first start’s going to be in the Cotton Bowl,” Brown said. “It’s a big stage against a really good team. It’s a top-10 matchup. And I’m just excited to go out there and show what I can do.”
With McCord gone, Brown wishes him the best, but he’s now focused on making the most of his opportunity.
“I wish the best of luck for Kyle, that’s one of my closest friends. And I hope he goes and does big things,” Brown said. “But then again, I’m excited to go play and finally show what I can do and have fun with this team.”
Brown was rated as the No. 5 overall quarterback in the 2022 recruiting class. We’ll have to see how he fares in his first start.
