Ohio State Buckeyes fans are one of the most fanatical fanbases in college football. And for good reason, they are one of the country’s blue-blood programs.
However, the Buckeyes have faltered recently against their longtime rivals, the Michigan Wolverines. After nearly two decades of dominance in what is colloquially referred to as, “The Rivalry,” head coach Ryan Day and the Buckeyes have lost two straight to the Wolverines.
The Buckeyes missed the playoffs after the first loss and suffered a humiliating come-from-ahead loss to eventual champion Georgia after the second loss.
Needless to say, there’s a wing of Ohio State fans that would pack Day’s bags for him if he were to move from Columbus.
But Kirk Herbstreit, a former Buckeyes quarterback and current ABC and ESPN broadcaster, disagrees vehemently with what he calls the “lunatic fringe” of the fanbase.
“The 15 percenters, they get mad at anything,” Herbstreit told Dave Briggs of The Toledo Blade.
“That percent is going to be mad at something always. [Day] could win the Michigan game, go to the playoff and lose, and they’ll be mad about that. That group is just a bunch of jack***** who kind of embarrass all of us as Ohio State fans. So I don’t really care, honestly, what that group thinks. But the people who matter, the logical people who actually have a brain and understand the sport, they love what Ryan Day has done. The fact that this is even a topic is almost comical.”
The CFB world was quick to react to the news:
I won’t be mad about beating michigan and going to the playoffs, the problem is he can’t do that!

As a Wolverine, I’m obviously not a Day fan. But really! The guy’s program is great. Any other school in the nation would kill for his record.
From our point of view up north, yeah, dump him. Rationally, however, STHU.

"[Day] could win the Michigan game, go to the playoff and lose, and they’ll be mad about that."
If only there were a way to put this theory to the test. https://t.co/GT9cYvJT9Y
