Through the first two weeks of the season, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day has been non-committal on naming a full-time starting quarterback.
During Tuesday’s media availability, that changed when Day announced that Kyle McCord would be Ohio State’s starting quarterback for the rest of the season.

The announcement wasn’t particularly shocking, as McCord was projected to be the starter going into the season, replacing C.J. Stroud who was drafted second overall by the Houston Texans.
So far this season, McCord has gone 34-53 for 497 passing yards and three touchdowns. He also started both games for Ohio State so far. The Buckeyes’ other quarterback option, Devin Brown, is just 8-16 for 99 yards, with virtually all of it coming in the late stages of Ohio State’s Week 2 blowout win over Youngstown State.
Day feels that by announcing McCord as the starter, it will give the junior quarterback “peace of mind” and said McCord has “earned the opportunity.”
Some have been frustrated with Ohio State’s lack of rhythm and consistency on offense so far in the new season. The Buckeyes will have a chance to tighten things up on Saturday when they host Western Kentucky before Week 4’s showdown in South Bend, where the Buckeyes will meet up with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Fans had plenty to say on social media about Day’s announcement Tuesday.
McCord got the significant bulk of the snaps vs IU versus Brown getting garbage time reps, and then a game against Youngstown State was the deciding factor. What a hilarious QB battle that solely existed in Ryan Day’s indecisive, anxiety riddled brain https://t.co/g0TYyhS0fs

The amount of people who tweeted at me that Kyle McCord was just taking the first snaps not the starting QB and we would all know it by the Notre Dame game is truly MENACEing https://t.co/pcGM0mlCDB

Thank god. Now create a special playbook for Devon Brown and still utilize a two-qb system when you need to change the vibe of a game https://t.co/XhISAeM1Fm

Yeah, the focus needs to be on getting ready for Norte Dame and the conference schedule. Saturday provided a good opportunity to see both and he was better.
He Western Kentucky is a dress rehearsal for what’s to come. Time to put the leading men in their roles. https://t.co/YyiI0BWUKz
