Ohio State Syndication: The Columbus Dispatch

Through the first two weeks of the season, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day has been non-committal on naming a full-time starting quarterback.

During Tuesday’s media availability, that changed when Day announced that Kyle McCord would be Ohio State’s starting quarterback for the rest of the season.

The announcement wasn’t particularly shocking, as McCord was projected to be the starter going into the season, replacing C.J. Stroud who was drafted second overall by the Houston Texans.

So far this season, McCord has gone 34-53 for 497 passing yards and three touchdowns. He also started both games for Ohio State so far. The Buckeyes’ other quarterback option, Devin Brown, is just 8-16 for 99 yards, with virtually all of it coming in the late stages of Ohio State’s Week 2 blowout win over Youngstown State.

Day feels that by announcing McCord as the starter, it will give the junior quarterback “peace of mind” and said McCord has “earned the opportunity.”

Some have been frustrated with Ohio State’s lack of rhythm and consistency on offense so far in the new season. The Buckeyes will have a chance to tighten things up on Saturday when they host Western Kentucky before Week 4’s showdown in South Bend, where the Buckeyes will meet up with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Fans had plenty to say on social media about Day’s announcement Tuesday.
