The Ohio State Buckeyes and Texas Longhorns are set to face off in the Cotton Bowl Classic on Friday evening, one of the College Football Playoff semifinals. However, there’s a possibility the game could be postponed due to an incoming bout of severe weather.
The Dallas area is bracing for temperatures in the 30s on Thursday, along with a wintry mix and an 83 percent chance of precipitation. Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate further on Friday, the day of the game.
Friday’s forecast predicts temperatures dropping as low as 25 degrees, accompanied by strong winds and morning snow. Some models even project the region could see as much as 12 inches of snowfall.
Although AT&T Stadium’s covered roof will shield the game itself, the severe weather could disrupt travel for fans, teams, and others involved in the event.
At present, the game is still on schedule. However, it seems the Cotton Bowl is preparing for alternate scenarios.
On Tuesday, Cotton Bowl officials released a statement affirming the current schedule while noting they are “monitoring” the situation and “have plans for inclement weather.”
“We are routinely monitoring weather reports and we are in close contact with AT&T Stadium and local officials. We always have plans for inclement weather. Should conditions warrant it, we will communicate to everyone attending and connected with this year’s Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic,” the statement read, per Peyton Yager Fox 4.
As it stands, the game is slated to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET in Arlington, Texas. However, it sounds like there is a chance this could change.
