On Thursday night, the Ole Miss Rebels prolonged their season after beating the Georgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl in one of the most exciting games of the College Football Playoff era.  However, it wasn’t even a full day removed from the game before they had to reckon with another key piece leaving the same way that head coach Lane Kiffin did when he departed to become the next coach of the LSU Tigers.

Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss was extremely impressive in the Rebels’ upset win over the Bulldogs, throwing for 362 yards and two touchdowns in the thriller.

Now, it looks as if one of the quarterbacks behind Chambliss is reading the writing on the wall that this isn’t his program, and is going to continue his collegiate career elsewhere, per one prominent college football insider.

“NEWS: Ole Miss QB Austin Simmons plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, per an ESPN source. He’s entering with a no contact tag, with Missouri as the favorite to land him. He’s expected to stay with Ole Miss through the CFP,” reported ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“Austin simmons to missouri makes sense, ole miss losing talent hurts, big move for tigers,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Mizzou loves backup QBs,” someone else added.

“Dang it. Hate to see him leave. Maybe that means good things for Trinidad’s waiver tho,” another fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see if Simmons gets more of an opportunity elsewhere.
