Insane Oregon football news swept the college football world up on Saturday.

The Ducks may get a player aboard for 2023 that they’ve had on the roster since 2012. Yes, tight end Cam McCormick reportedly earned his ninth year of NCAA eligibility. James Crepea of The Oregonian initially reported the news.

Crepea tweeted Friday, “Oregon Ducks tight end Cam McCormick considering returning for 8th season, granted 9th year of eligibility.”

As Fox’s college football account would point out, it’s been a crazy ride for McCormick. He redshirted his first season in 2016. Then in 2018, he suffered a season-ending injury that kept him out for all of 2019 as well. The COVID year in 2020 granted everyone more eligibility, which spurred him on the next two seasons.

Now, the NCAA has reportedly granted him an additional year. So the Ducks might have someone in 2023 who redshirted in Justin Herbert’s freshman season.

Naturally, the CFB world was abuzz after the news broke.

Amie Just tweeted, “So, he’s gonna basically be Dr. Cam McCormick when this is all said and done.”

Reporter Gabe McDonald hoped McCormick, at least, is active in the classroom. And for the record, there’s no indication he isn’t. He’s already picked up both bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

Crepea himself then added a crazy fact. He tweeted, “If Cam McCormick returns to Oregon for an 8th year he’ll be up to at least 406 college teammates in a tenure that began when Barack Obama still had 9 months left in the White House.”

And the account @KingFavre provided a hilarious video.
