ESPN’s Paul Finebaum does not think it was a good idea for Texas A&M to hire former Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino as their new offensive coordinator.
Finebaum thinks that Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher is asking for trouble with the controversial Petrino.
“We act like Bobby Petrino is a savant, that he’s never failed, but, quite frankly, he did fail at Louisville. He got fired there in his second go-round,” Finebaum said on WNSP Radio out of Mobile, AL. “That’s on top of the other malfeasances that has occurred in his clock.”
Finebaum also reminded folks about Petrino’s scandals and controversies at Auburn and while he was head coach at Arkansas.
“We forget about ‘JetGate’ Petrino,” Finebaum continued to say. “We fixate on the Harley motorcycle Bobby Petrino, but this guy has always been a snake in the grass.”
Finebaum’s argument against hiring Petrino is spot on. Fisher, without knowing it, may have hired his successor. It’s quite obvious that Fisher may be on his last leg in College Station and the man he just hired is not exactly loyal.
Petrino has a questionable past and as Finebaum pointed out, during his last stint as the head coach of Louisville, he eventually was fired because of his dismal record.
Jimbo Fisher better watch his back, because if that call does come and he is fired, don’t be surprised if Petrino is waiting in the wings to succeed him.
