Despite attending SEC Media Days in Dallas, the Colorado Buffaloes and Deion Sanders aren’t ever far away in Paul Finebaum’s thoughts.
When asked about how he thinks the Buffs will do this season, Finebaum did not hold back on what he thinks of Sanders and his program.
“Anyone asking whether Deion Sanders and Colorado are close to the playoffs simply doesn’t understand the reality of the road,” Finebaum said on ESPN’s First Take. “They’re not going to the playoffs this year, and I’m not sure Deion Sanders is ever going to get them to the playoffs, because I don’t think he has the patience to stay at Colorado long enough.”

Many feel that once Shedeur Sanders, Shilo Sanders, and Travis Hunter leave for the NFL, Sanders will follow, a charge he denies.
Finebaum also added that Sanders is more a salesman than a football coach and slammed Shedeur Sanders’s comments about Colorado being everyone’s Super Bowl.
“There are so many misconceptions out there. Deion Sanders is the best salesman I’ve ever seen. I personally love the guy for what he stands for. But the program looking out has a ridiculously inflated view of itself,” Finebaum said. “I heard Shedeur Sanders, who is a fabulous quarterback, say last week, ‘We are everyone’s Super Bowl.’ Shedeur, you are not. You are an easy win nowadays. You got off to a phenomenal start last year beating a couple of mediocre teams that had big names. And quite frankly you haven’t done anything since other than crash and burn.”
Finebaum added that Colorado is not relevant on the college football scene even if Deion is.
“I know that the media loves this story. We fall all over ourselves. But Colorado isn’t important in college football. Deion Sanders is,” Finebaum said. “He’s a stand-alone person. He’s one of the most charismatic people we’ve ever seen. But Colorado is nothing. They don’t matter. They’re irrelevant in the big picture of college football.”
Last season, the Buffs were 4-8 last year, which was an improvement from the year before. Colorado had several chances to get to six wins and make a bowl game but didn’t. While they received a ton of hype from the sports media, they didn’t live up to the expectations on the field. As good as Colorado was on offense, their defense was equally bad.
It will be interesting to see how Year Two goes and if Sanders can turn his team from being mediocre to competitive.
