Paul Finebaum knows a thing or two about the people who live in Alabama, after talking to them for the past 35 years. Now, he’s thinking about representing them as a member of Congress.
The SEC Network host revealed that he is considering a departure from ESPN to run for U.S. Senate in Alabama as a Republican. Finebaum also revealed that he’s a registered Republican who voted for President Trump in 2024, something he’d kept under wraps previously.
Finebaum said that the assassination of political commentator Charlie Kirk led him to reevaluate his priorities, saying he “spent four hours numb talking about things that didn’t matter to me.”
“It’s hard to describe, not being involved in politics, how that affected me and affected tens of millions of people all over this country. And it was an awakening,” Finebaum said, according to Awful Announcing.
“Alabama has always been the place I’ve felt the most welcome, that I’ve cared the most about the people,” he said. “I’ve spoken to people from Alabama for 35 years, and I feel there is a connection that is hard to explain.”
At this point, you got to make a decision on whether to run. The deadline is January at some point in time. …You have dealt in the world of recruiting for a long time. If the President of the United States says, ‘Paul, you’re my guy.’ can you tell him no?” Outkick’s Clay Travis sked Finebaum.
“Impossible to tell him no,” Finebaum replied. “There’s no way I could. I would say yes.”
