It’s always tough when tragedy strikes, and sports are no different. Luckily, sports are one of the unifying things in the world, and when something horrible happens, it gives people an opportunity to come together to mourn and pay their respects.
Luckily, that’s what happened when tragedy struck the Pittsburgh Panthers football team. Pittsburgh Panthers head coach Pat Narduzzi released a devastating statement early on Sunday.
“I received a call this morning that no parent, teacher or coach ever wants to get—the news of the sudden loss of a young and promising life. Our entire program is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of Mason Alexander’s passing.
“Mason had just enrolled at Pitt in January following his early graduation from Indiana’s Hamilton Southeastern High School. Even during that short time, he made a great impression on all of us.
“Mason was proud and excited to be a Panther, and we felt the same way about having him in our Pitt family. He will always be a Panther to us. The Alexander family and Mason’s many loved ones and friends will be in our prayers,” Narduzzi said.
Fans reacted to the devastating news on social media.
“From the bad guys down south we will be praying for y’all and yalls program! This is never the news you want to hear regardless of the program. Wish yall well, but as always ESP!!!! Luv Mountaineer Nation,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Simply heartbreaking. Sending his family and friends love and lifting them in prayer as they navigate this unimaginable loss,” one fan added.
“Im so very sorry for this loss . Please let the Alexander family know of our sadness and hope that they are comforted in this time. Gods Speed Mason,” another fan addd.
Hopefully, the Pittsburgh community will take the time it needs to heal.
