Hudson Card Texas quarterback Hudson Card beat out Casey Thompson for the starting job last August but ended up losing it back to Thompson early in the season. The Lake Travis product was battling Quinn Ewers for this year’s starting spot before Ewers was named the starter Friday. Card

The Texas Longhorns got a bit of good news this weekend. It looks like starting quarterback Quinn Ewers, who was injured in the team’s loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide just two weeks ago, will dress for the Texas Tech game and could play.

Even though it initially looked like Ewers would be out 4 to 6 weeks due to his injury, Ewers was actually listed as a co-starter along with Hudson Card on Texas’ depth chart ahead of Saturday’s game. Though head coach Steve Sarkisian announced on Saturday that Card will start.

ESPN’s Pat McAfee said Saturday morning on College game day that he had received a message from Pete Thamel saying Ewers may start.

“The authority (Pete Thamel) literally just texted me and told me some inside information, so I don’t know if I’m breaking anything here,” McAfree said according to On3. “Quinn Ewers, the quarterback that got hurt in the game against Alabama, that we all thought was going to be out for the entire season. If you do recall, slinging that thing down the entire field against Alabama’s defense. He practiced all week. He might be available for this game. If not him, Hudson Card, who’s come in and done incredible against the teams in relief for Quinn.

“This Sark team feels to be building a new culture. This would kind of be a game to cement that, against a Texas Tech team that the coach said the fans are going to be drunk, and the environment is going to be wild. Is it Quinn? Is it Hudson? We don’t know. But this is massive for Sark’s culture right now.”

This can be big for the Longhorns if Ewers is able to return quickly, especially with a showdown against Oklahoma looming on the horizon.
