During the Texas Longhorns’ heartbreaking loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide last month, Texas lost more than just the game as starting quarterback Quinn Ewers suffered a shoulder injury that kept him out for the past several weeks. But ahead of a massive rivalry showdown with the Oklahoma Sooners, it looks like he’ll be ready to play on Saturday afternoon.

According to college football insider Pete Thamel of ESPN, Ewers was able to practice all week and is expected to start for the Longhorns against the Sooners on Saturday.

“Sources: Star quarterback Quinn Ewers will return for Texas on Saturday and is expected to start in the Red River game against Oklahoma. He’s been practicing without limitations this week,” Thamel said in a Tweet.

With Ewers out for the past three games, backup quarterback Hudson Card took over, going 2-1 with a loss against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Card was the team’s starter last season but lost the starting quarterback competition this offseason after Ewers transferred to Texas from Ohio State.

It’s big news and the college football world had plenty to say about it.

The Red River Showdown will kick off at noon on Saturday. The Longhorns enter the game as 8.5-point favorites according to most sportsbooks.
