Since the 2014 college football season, the College Football Playoff has been a four-team field. But that will be changing ahead of the 2024-25 college football season when the field expands to 12 teams with the top-four seeds getting a bye. And it’s safe to say it’s going to change college football.

During an appearance on the Barstool Sports podcast Bussin’ With the Boys this week, Ohio State Buckeyes Ryan Day was asked about his thoughts on the upcoming 12-team playoff and how those changes are going to affect the chances of the Big Ten and Ohio State winning a College Football Playoff title.

“I think that the 12-team playoff will be interesting. I think it’s going to be interesting to see how that all plays out,” Day said during the podcast according to On3. “The first four teams get a bye, get home-field advantage. That’s cool playing in the Big Ten. That could be a game in December on the road, you know, so there’s a lot to be determined here. Now that’s two years away, but looking forward to seeing what that looks like.”

Obviously, that change isn’t happening this season, but it will be interesting to see how teams and coaches adjust once that change is implemented.
