The Ohio State Buckeyes have been without one of their quarterbacks since Devin Brown suffered an injury during the team’s win over the Penn State Nittany Lions last month, but it sounds like he would be able to play if the Buckeyes needed him this week.
During a press conference this week, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day announced that Devin Brown was a “viable” backup to starting quarterback Kyle McCord at this point in his injury recovery.
“He’s viable, for sure,” Ryan Day said. “He’s close to getting back to 100 percent but he’s had a full week of practice here. So, that’s been great and we’re gonna need him here down the stretch. You never know how it’s all gonna shake out. So, the more guys we get back the better we’re gonna be.”
Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the Buckeyes are going to play Brown unless they have to.
Throughout this season, Ohio State has used Brown as a change-of-pace quarterback in the red zone, making use of his running ability in short-yardage situations. While it sounds like Brown would be able to play if McCord is unable, he might not quite be ready to return to his red zone role.
