Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day and Rutgers Scarlet Knights head coach Greg Schiano have a history together, coaching alongside each other with each serving as assistants under former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer between the 2016 and 2018 seasons. But that didn’t stop the two from engaging in a heating argument during Saturday afternoon’s game.
The confrontation began when Ohio State punter Jesse Mirco chose to run a fake punt while leading 49-10 late in the fourth quarter of Saturday afternoon’s contest. Mirco took the snap and noticed space in front of him, so he darted past the first down marker with ease before running out of bounds to avoid taking a hit.
Unfortunately for Mirco, Rutgers safety Aron Cruickshank hit him anyway, leveling the punter with a late hit out of bounds and igniting quite a scuffle between the two teams. Both Day and Schiano could be seen screaming at each other and pointing fingers while the two teams met in a wild scrum.

Following the insane scene, Cruickshank was ejected for the dirty hit on the punter while both Day and Schiano were given offsetting unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for their actions during the scuffle.
It was an absolutely wild scene during an otherwise lopsided game, and the college football world had plenty to say about it.

Ultimately Ohio State won the game 49-10 behind a record-breaking performance from backup running back Miyan Williams. But the scuffle will undoubtedly be what is remembered from this contest.
