The Ohio State Buckeyes will begin their 2023 college football season in under a month with a conference showdown against the Indiana Hoosiers, but Ohio State has yet to name a quarterback. And according to Ohio State head coach Ryan Day, it’s not because both guys have been incredible during practice.

Kyle McCord and Devin Brown are competing to become Ohio State’s next starting quarterback. But during a press conference this week, Ryan Day made it clear that he would have liked to be able to name a winner at this point, but neither player has stepped up and earned the job.

“I do wish that somebody had really emerged,” Day said according to Eleven Warriors. “I don’t think, right now, it’s two guys that are just blowing it out of the water to where you’re like, ‘Oh my god, I don’t know who’s going to play.’ But it’s also not like they’re not doing well either. There’s really good play out there, there’s ability. Now we’re just looking for consistency.”

Ohio State has had exceptional quarterback play under Day ever since he arrived in Columbus, but it doesn’t necessarily sound like he’s extraordinarily happy with what he’s seen from either McCord or Brown at this point.
