Ryan Day Syndication: The Columbus Dispatch

Last season, the Ohio State Buckeyes lost just two games, falling to the Michigan Wolverines in the final regular season game and the Georgia Bulldogs in the College Football Playoff semifinal. In both cases, the defense let the team down. But this offseason, Ryan Day is already seeing improvement.

During a press conference following Ohio State’s annual spring game, Ryan Day discussed some of the improvement he’s seen from his defense, pointing out that the team did not give up many explosive plays during the spring game.

“You saw, today we didn’t really give up a lot of explosives. Maybe just a couple in the second half and that’s important for us. We expect to score a lot of points on offense and if we can avoid explosive play, that’s a recipe for winning, which was the idea in 2019 and we need to continue to do that,” Day said.

“So, as we come out of the spring, we’ll evaluate it. We’ll go through each position, but there’s reason for optimism for sure.”

It is certainly a welcomed update for Ohio State fans who want to see improvement on the defensive side of the ball. We’ll have to see how the team looks when the actual games start in a few months.
