A former five-star quarterback in the transfer portal has found his next home.
Former Washington QB Sam Huard announced Monday on social media that he will transfer to Cal Poly. Over the last two seasons, Huard played in five games for the Huskies, completing 54.5% of his (24-of-44) while passing for 265 yards with one passing touchdown and four interceptions.

Huard entered the transfer portal back on Jan. 10.
The news comes after Cal Poly’s new coach Pal Wulff recently hired a high school head coach with connections to Huard as the program’s next offensive coordinator. Earlier this month, Sheldon Cross, who was Huard’s head coach at Kennedy Catholic in Seattle, took the job as Cal Poly’s OC.
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Huard was ranked as the nation’s No. 3 quarterback and the No. 12 overall prospect in the country for the 2021 recruiting class. So far, all three of 247Sports’ top quarterbacks in the 2021 class have transferred. Huard joins Quinn Ewers and Caleb Williams, who transferred to Texas and Southern Cal, respectively.
While Washington doesn’t have a quarterback signed to its 2023 recruiting class, starting quarterback Michael Penix, Jr. announced that he would be returning to the school for his sixth and final year of eligibility.
