It’s been a few months since the college football world has seen much real conference realignment news since the USC Trojans and the UCLA Bruins made the shocking decision to join the Big Ten, but it appears we might have a big conference shake-up brewing involving the Mountain West and the Pac-12.

According to a report from sports radio personality Dan Patrick, it appears that the San Diego State Aztecs are set to leave the Mountain West to join the Pac-12 in the next major conference realignment news and the move should be announced in the near future.

“It looks like San Diego State is going to go to the Pac-12,” Patrick said on his radio show on Monday. “That is expected – at least according to my source – to be announced this week. But, San Diego State to the Pac-12.”

It would certainly be a major move and big shakeup as conference realignment continues across the country, and the college football world had plenty to say about it as the news surfaced.

If San Diego State does join the Pac-12, that will bring the conference to 11 teams after the departures of USC and UCLA. This will undoubtedly lead to speculation that the conference could be looking to add one more school as well, especially considering the conference is still called the “Pac-12.”
