Following the tragic passing of freshman running back Camdan McWright on Friday morning, Saturday’s college football game between San José State and New Mexico State has been postponed.

The news was confirmed by New Mexico State on Friday evening. The Aggies announced the decision on their athletic website.

“In light of the tragic circumstances involving Camdan McWright, the decision has been made to postpone the game,” New Mexico State’s Athletic Director, Mario Moccia said. “All of Aggie Nation’s thoughts and prayers go out to the McWright family, the Spartan football program, the San José State athletic department and university.”

The decision, which was made jointly between Mocia San José State Athletic Director Jeff Konya, was met with praise.

Wright was struck by a bus on Friday morning while riding an electric scooter near the San José State campus.

While making up the game is obviously of minimal importance compared to the life that was so tragically and suddenly cut short, there’s no clear date to do it. The Spartans and Aggies don’t share any bye weeks between now and Saturday, Nov. 26, the final scheduled regular season games for both. One option would likely be to play the following week, on Saturday, Dec. 3. Another would be to just not play the game, which, given that they are not conference opponents, is certainly plausible.

McWright, a freshman out of Panorama High School in Los Angeles, had carried the ball three times for the Spartans during the 2022 season. He was only 18.
