The SEC is widely thought of as the best conference in college football. However, that title has been challenged recently as the last two national championships have gone to teams in the Big Ten, and the current number one and number two ranked teams in the latest AP poll also reside in the Big Ten.
However, the SEC is hoping that this is the season it reclaims its title as the top conference in the sport, and it might be able to take the national title this year, as it currently has five teams in the AP poll’s top 10, more than any other conference.
Unfortunately, the conference has decided to levy a harsh punishment on one of those teams for breaking the rules.
“A $50,000 fine for Texas A&M for feigned injuries. Includes: “Just prior to the player going down, a Texas A&M staff member can be seen in the video standing in the team area near the 25-yard line signaling demonstratively to the player, pointing to the ground,” reported ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Tuesday.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Needs a harsher punishment. $50k for a free timeout is pocket change,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“We were charged a timeout for it so even if we faked an injury (we didnt, ever heard of a cramp?) it didnt benefit us in any way,” one Texas A&M fan added.
“This conference is a freaking joke,” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if any other teams get cracked down on for faking injuries this season.
