The Michigan Wolverines football program found itself in yet another national controversy when it suddenly announced that head coach Sherrone Moore had been fired for having an inappropriate relationship.
“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately,” the university announced in December. “Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.”
Now, Moore is facing new allegations stemming from his tenure as the Wolverines’ head coach.
LaTroy Lewis, who only recently signed on to become the defensive line coach for the Atlanta Falcons, has been accused of rape in Michigan, per a report from Darko State news.
Atlanta issued a report on the matter on Friday.
“We are aware of allegations regarding LaTroy Lewis. We are in the process of gathering information and will have no further comment at this time.”
The report says that the alleged incident occurred while Lewis was on the University of Michigan’s coaching staff, and that Lewis harassed the accuser as well, allegedly sending texts such as “I’m going to f**k you up,” and “I’d f*****g kill you! Don’t play with me.”
Per the report, the accuser reported the rape to Moore, who was still the head coach of Michigan at the time. Moor was mandated to report sexual assault under both Title IX and the university’s policies, but allegedly failed to do so.
Instead, Moore allegedly gave Lewis a raise and sexually harassed the accuser himself.
The alleged assault took place in 2024. In 2025, Lewis served as the defensive line coach for the Toledo Rockets.
Michigan has already hired Jenner & Block, a Chicago-based law firm that has done business with the school in recent years, to launch a full investigation into the practices and culture of its athletic department.
