This year, the Texas Longhorns face a tough early-season test against the Alabama Crimson Tide. And while Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian makes it clear that he has a lot of respect for Alabama and head coach Nick Saban, it doesn’t sound like he’s going to back down from the challenge, either.

During an appearance on The Pivot this week, Sarkisian explained that Alabama might be a dominant program with history and tradition and a great coach, but Texas is a powerhouse program, too.

“There’s definitely a great deal of respect for their program, the history and tradition of Alabama, Coach Saban. But in the end, we’re the University of Texas too, and we’ve got good players too, and we’ve got pretty good coaches too,” Sarkisian said according to On3. “In the end, you’ve got to go play the game, and who can make those plays. Who can call the right calls at the right time. Have your players prepared in the most critical moments.

“That’s ultimately what football comes down to. There’s that 8-10 plays that ultimate define a game, can you make those plays in those moments.”

Last year, the Longhorns narrowly lost to the Crimson Tide. We’ll have to see if they can come away with a victory in this season’s matchup.
