The Texas Longhorns faced off against the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship on Saturday. The Bulldogs won the game 22-19, and one thing that left fans puzzled was the absence of electric young quarterback Arch Manning. Manning appeared for one play in the contest, only to serve as a decoy, as the football was directly snapped to the running back.
Starting quarterback Quinn Ewers struggled mightily in the game, looking wildly inconsistent from drive to drive, and even threw two interceptions, both at critical junctures in the game. It’s clear at this point that head coach Steve Sarkisian is sticking with Ewers over Manning, regardless of what happens on the field.
This is brutal for Manning who is just about out of opportunities to prove himself now, unless Ewers were to go down with an injury in the upcoming college football playoff.
Fans reacted to the quarterback’s mismanagement on social media.
“Texas is a national championship team without a national championship QB,” one fan said after Ewers’ first interception.
“its so funny that texas has a championship level roster during an extremely weak overall field and they arent playing the best qb on their roster,” one fan added.
“Put Arch Manning in,” another frustrated fan demanded.
It’s interesting that Sarkisian seems prepared to let the ship sink out of loyalty to Ewers rather than put the team in the best position to win.
