The Tennessee Volunteers received awful injury news on Sunday.

Heisman Trophy hopeful and star quarterback Hendon Hooker hurt his knee on Saturday night. The college football world reacted with sadness on Saturday night when the Tennessee quarterback went down. On Sunday, the concern was unfortunately proven justified. Hooker tore his ACL and has played his last college snap.

The Vol Football account tweeted the announcement and issued a statement inside it.

The statement read, “Quarterback Hendon Hooker sustained a torn ACL in his left knee on Saturday night. Hendon and the Hooker Family appreciate all of your prayers and support. Hendon’s incredible journey has been defined by faith, perseverance and strength. Obstacles have never stood in the way on his path to greatness. Forever a Tennessee legend and the ultimate teammate, we know Hendon will come back stronger than ever as he embarks on a promising NFL future. Thank you, Hendo.”

Hooker played like one of the best quarterbacks in the nation until he suffered the brutal injury. He was a serious Heisman hopeful and helped lead Tennessee to its first win over Alabama since 2006. He looked well on his way to at least an invite to New York City. Now he will presumably never play a college snap again.

The college football world once again expressed their sadness for Hooker and his injury.
