While Texas Longhorns starting QB Quinn Ewers was at SEC Media Days this past week, one thing he couldn’t escape from was questions about backup QB Arch Manning.
Manning, the nephew of Eli and Peyton Manning, was a highly sought-after high school quarterback. Despite Ewers’ success last year, many are wondering if he is feeling any pressure from his backup.
Ewers answers the media’s questions about Manning.
“There’s pressure with anything,” Ewers said. “I think the pressure along from playing the quarterback position at Texas comes with its own.”
Although he led his team to their first College Football Playoff last season, many are dying to see Manning on the field. But according to Ewers, his relationship with Manning is good, and even calls him “goofy.”
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian also discussed his two QBs’ relationship.
“These guys are great, great friends. Nobody gets along better,” Sarkisian said. “There’s a real level of appreciation for what each guy is doing. Because they know the journey, they know the path, they know how we coach him. From Archer’s perspective, he’s watching Quinn have to go through some of the adversity, having a fight through injury, having to deal with the criticism of being the quarterback of Texas, so to see him have success, I think Arch is fired up for Quinn.”
Even though Ewers will be the Longhorns starter, Sarkisian did say he expects both of them to play this upcoming season.
