As the Alabama Crimson Tide search for a replacement for former starting quarterback Bryce Young, who is widely expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, it’s been no secret that the quarterbacks on the current roster haven’t exactly impressed head coach Nick Saban. And now there’s speculation that Alabama could go to the transfer portal to find their next quarterback.

On Tuesday afternoon, Notre Dame Fighting Irish quarterback Tyler Buchner entered the NCAA Transfer portal. And college football insider Pete Thamel seems to think there’s a chance he ultimately signs with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

“One logical landing spot for Buchner will be Alabama. Other schools that have shown interest in portal quarterbacks this spring include TCU and Stanford,” Thamel wrote for ESPN on Tuesday. “Former Notre Dame offensive coordinator Tommy Rees left the Irish for the Crimson Tide this offseason. It became increasingly clear in Alabama’s spring game on Saturday that the program lacks a clear cut starter.”

Thamel also points out that Alabama head coach Nick Saban did not rule out the possibility of the Crimson Tide bringing in another quarterback via the transfer portal.

While it’s far from a done deal, this is certainly a situation to pay attention to.
