On the same day that former Alabama Crimson Tide starting quarterback Bryce Young is expected to become the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, it looks like Nick Saban and Alabama might have landed their starting quarterback for the upcoming season.
On Thursday morning, Notre Dame Fighting Irish transfer quarterback Tyler Buchner announced his commitment to Alabama with a post on Twitter.
“Sometimes life brings opportunities that are beyond anything you can imagine and that is what has happened today,” Buchner said in a statement on social media. “I have committed to play football for the University of Alabama and head coach Nick Saban. I know this is the best decision for my future, and I can’t wait to get to Tuscaloosa and begin the next step of my football journey.”

It’s pretty massive news in the college football world, and the college football world had plenty to say about it on social media.
Tyler Buchner commits to Alabama, reunites with former Notre Dame offensive coordinator Tommy Rees.
Will be a fascinating move for Buchner, who needs a place where he can get an opportunity to play. https://t.co/9beaNkqIzr

Don’t think this is the best indictment for the Bama QB situation but he certainly will know the playbook. https://t.co/t7gnALgdE4

Buchner also shared a message for his former team as he leaves Notre Dame.
“My time at Notre Dame Allowed me to grow and develop as a football player while building lifelong friendships that were forged under fire,” Buchner said. “I love my teammates and I will take those relationships with me for he rest of my life – they truly made my time at Notre Dame special. I also want to thank coach [Marcus] Freeman, the coaching staff, support staff and the entire Irish family for all they did to help me mature both on and off the football field.”
This is obviously a massive pickup for Alabama.
