The Texas Longhorns and head coach Steve Sarkisian have pulled off quite an impressive feat – recruiting two top-rated quarterbacks to the same roster. And in the era of the transfer portal and five-star freshmen expecting to play immediately, Urban Meyer is quite impressed.

During his podcast Urban’s Take with Tim May, Urban Meyer praised Steve Sarkisian for signing No. 1-rated quarterback Arch Manning in the 2023 recruiting class when the Longhorns already had Quinn Ewers, who was rated as the No. 1 quarterback in the 2021 recruiting class.

“I think first of all it’s a great job recruiting how we convinced Arch Manning to get there because Quinn Ewers is there,” Meyer said on the podcast. “I mean he was the No. 1 player in the country for a reason. He is so talented and if stays healthy, I really believe they beat Alabama and it’s a completely different season for Texas.”

Still, Meyer thinks Sarkisian still has some work to do in order to keep them both happy this season.

“Here, so I got good news and bad news for Texas. Good news is they got two extremely talented players. The bad news is once you name a starter, and they’re both young, I don’t know how long they stick around,” Meyer said. “I guess maybe Quinn Ewers, this is his third year of college coming up. So maybe that was part of the recruiting. I know he’s young, but he could start for one year, leave and then Arch takes over.”

We’ll have to see how it all shakes out in Texas.
