It’s been almost a week since Alabama lost to Tennessee in a stunning upset and the college football world is still a buzz about it including Fox college football analyst Urban Meyer.

Meyer knows what it is like to face off against Alabama and Nick Saban, having slayed the dragon a few times in his career including, winning his last national championship as head coach of Ohio State against Saban.

When asked what impressed him the most about the Vols’ victory, Meyer said it was the play of quarterback Hendon Hooker.

“It’s all the quarterback. If you trust that quarterback you take a shot right there,” Meyer said during Urban’s Take with Tim May, via On3. “His name is all over the country now and it should be. But that was a checkmate moment. That was one of those moments you practice and you never sometimes get until that one moment you get it, and he called the right play but more importantly the players executed.”

Hooker threw himself in the middle of the Heisman race with his play. Hooker threw four touchdown passes against Alabama last week, which gave him 15 touchdowns overall and 1,800 yards with one interception for the season.

Hooker’s play also put his team squarely in the running for not only an SEC title but a chance to play in the College Football Playoff.
