There’s a reason that schools still try to fight out how to get Urban Meyer to return to coaching. The guy built winners wherever he went in college football.
The NFL is a different story, of course.
But in the world of college football, Meyer turned Utah, Florida, and Ohio State into juggernauts and won three national titles along the way.
While he might work for Fox Sports now, Meyer remains a notable figure in the sport and his opinion commands attention, even if he also carries a bit of controversy with him as well.
Speaking with Ari Wasserman of The Athletic, Meyer was asked if he misses recruiting for college football and his answer might surprise you.
“I miss going to different parts of the country and learning,” said Meyer. “When I started recruiting Polynesian players, it was one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. I was one of only two head coaches ever to go to American Samoa. To go into the Deep South and to recruit Mormon players at Utah and people from Texas, I really miss that. I learned so much about cultures and people. You’re talking about going to American Samoa and then getting on the plane and going to Detroit or Miami. I really miss that. It was the time of my life.”
It makes you wonder if Meyer might want to give it one more go and enjoy himself on the recruiting trail once more.
