Despite his struggles with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL last season, Urban Meyer has had plenty of success in the college ranks, winning three national titles – one with the Florida Gators and one with the Ohio State Buckeyes. And he’s picking one of those former teams to win the national title this season.

Meyer, who serves as an analyst for Fox Sports on the network’s Big Noon Kickoff pregame show, revealed that he’s picking Ohio State to win this year’s College Football Playoff, citing the team’s relatively easy schedule as one of his reasons.

“I know this is hard to believe, but I’m going with the Buckeyes,” Meyer said on Big Noon Kickoff. “To me, it’s all about the pathway. They’re at least a seven-point favorite every game, some a two-to-three touchdown favorite, and they got the Wolverines at home in ‘The Game.’ In the Big Ten Championship, they can be a three-touchdown favorite. I’m not sure that has ever happened before.”

Meyer’s rationale is fitting since ESPN’s Desmond Howard blasted the Buckeyes for their strength of schedule on the network’s College GameDay pregame show on Saturday morning.

Easy schedule or not, the Buckeyes have proven themselves a legitimate national title contender this season.
