While his NFL career went down in flames, Urban Meyer knew a thing or two about how to succeed in college football.
The three-time national champion who had coaching stints with Utah, Ohio State, and Florida is a mainstay in the college football world thanks to his role on Fox Sports.
Meyer also still has plenty of opinions about the state of the sport, including what he thinks about the modern recruiting world.
Speaking with Ari Wasserman of The Athletic, Meyer said that while he doesn’t think it’s “bad” that players earn money, he has concerns over things he’s heard about how some schools aren’t able to recruit a player due to a lack of financial ability.

“Right now, this school can do this and that school can do that,” said Meyer. “Most of it is dependent on the financial aspect. ‘We can’t get this player because we can’t pay him enough.’ When I hear that, I say, “You’ve got to be kidding me.” That’s not what this is all about. When I hear that, and I’ll be honest with you, it makes me upset. And I don’t think it’s bad that college players make money. I think it’s great. But when I hear that, I wonder what the future of this sport is.”
