For years, Sean “Diddy” Combs was one of the top recording artists and producers in the world, as he was regularly seen at top sporting events and developed friendships with top sports stars including NBA icon LeBron James. But now, Diddy faces a massive criminal sex trafficking case, and things appear to have taken another negative turn for hin.

According to court documents obtained by the New York Post, one of Diddy’s defense attorneys has abruptly resigned from the case.

On Thursday, lawyer Anthony Ricco submitted an official motion to step away from his role as one of the six defense attorneys on Diddy’s case. While Ricco did not specify exactly why he was leaving the case, he did make it clear that he did not feel as though he could continue.

“Under no circumstances can I continue to effectively serve as counsel for Sean Combs,” Ricco declared in an affidavit filed in Manhattan federal court, the New York Post reports. “It is respectfully but regrettably requested that the court grant the relief requested.”

Ricco explained that he kept his exit statement brief and vague to avoid sharing any details shielded by attorney-client privilege.

The move won’t become official until a judge finds a reason to approve his departure and signs off. Ricco maintains there’s reason for his departure even if he is not sharing the details, saying “there are sufficient reasons” for him to leave the defense team.

Needless to say, this is some horrible news for Diddy that seems to indicate things might not be going too well for him. As a result, people had a lot to say about it on social media.

“This is a new level of Guilty we’ve never approached before,” one person wrote on X.

“Not even mass shooter and terrorist lawyers quit this is ridiculous,” someone else added.

“As a lawyer. When a lawyer says this it’s usually two things they saw something horrific (unlikely we are trained to see evidence and feel nothing) or conflict. Like Diddy must have tried asked the lawyer to hide or not disclose so no choice but to remove himself,” another person speculated.

“You know how bad the details gotta be for this to happen?” someone else said.

“That’s when you know it’s bad,” another person commented.

“Lawyer must have seen some new egregious evidence and said ‘This is too much,'” someone else speculated.

Diddy has entered a not guilty plea to allegations of coercing women into drug-fueled sex performances. His trial is slated for May 5. If convicted on the heaviest charge, the once-celebrated rapper and entertainer could be staring down a life sentence.

Obviously, Diddy is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, like all Americans.
